Event Theme: BALFOLK

Event Music: Balfolk (and dance friendly FOLK music)
The music style ranges from Balfolk Polka, up-tempo Celtic Folk, and even country music for some of the dances.

Event Overview-musicians:
Demo-drop ‘Open Mic’ band battle: Friendly Folk Records represents all genres of Folk music. We have had many requests from venues and festivals for Balfolk acts. So, we would like to add a few Balfolk Artists to our ever growing Friendly Folk Family.

We will select bands to perform at the FFR Folk Fest BAND BATTLE. The winner of the battle will receive x1 year free membership at our promotion services partner My Music Matters-MT (€180 value), and you will be listed on our directory FFR Bookings for future shows.

Event Overview-Dancers:
You will play an important role during our festival, as who better to judge a Balfolk BAND BATTLE then Balfolk Dancers! Dress up in your favorite Balfolk outfits and enjoy an evening of fun!
(Our co-host Berit van der Jagt will add more activities to our event. Keep an eye open for updates, and feel free to make suggestions.)

‘What is Balfolk’?

According to Wikipedia: “Bal Folk is a dance event for folk dance and folk music in a number of European countries, mainly in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

Fair enough! But that definition seems to lack the passion of the Folk community who spend many happy hours devoted to perfecting their steps and organizing Balfolk music and dance events. So that is why we have teamed up with the lovely and passionate Berit van der Jagt of Berit Balfolk.

Wat is balfolk?
Nog niet bekend met balfolk? Dan zal ik eens even uitleggen wat balfolk is! Bij balfolk dans je oude volksdansen uit West-Europa die in groepen of duo’s gedanst worden. Doordat je bij sommige dansen van partner wisselt tijdens de dans, leer je snel nieuwe mensen kennen en kan je makkelijker contact maken met ze! Wees niet bang als je nog nooit aan balfolk hebt meegedaan! Er zijn altijd mensen die je willen helpen het te leren en in alle dansen zit veel herhaling. Als je eenmaal de basis kent, kun je variaties gaan proberen. Je hoeft geen speciale kledij aan, als het maar lekker zit en je er vrij in kunt bewegen!
