Djîga (CH/ES)

Djîga (CH/ES)

Djîga is a duo of violins (and much more!) straight from the French-speaking part Switzerland. In Vaudios dialect, their name has a double meaning that couldn't be more fitting: Djîga means "dance" and Djiga "violin"! Nathalie Recking (CARAƆ) and Dani Velasco (L’AIR INCONNU, GRAND BALTHAZAR) oscillate between dance and violin, but also between traditional and contemporary music, Switzerland and Basque Country, deep-rooted vocals and delirious improvisations, powerful polyphonies and mesmerizing arrangements, all sprinkled with the musical presence and groove essential for dance. Their inexhaustible curiosity and taste for experimentation make Djîga a creative duo capable of bringing dancers off the beaten track! The duo Djîga performs both in concert and in balfolk setting. In the latter context they also offer dance workshops: Swiss dances, Basque dances and an introduction to balfolk.
